What makes a Pipeband? |
|
A pipe band is made up of 3 musical sections working together to provide the most exhilarating and enthralling music around
The Bagpipes provide the musical melodies and harmonies and are the primary instrument of a pipeband. No other instrument says I AM HERE more clearly than the bagpipes!
The Mid-Section, this drumming section itself has two key areas of expertise, the Bass Drum, a large drum used to signal the beat of the musical piece; and the Tenor Drums which are played while flourishing and easily are the most visually stimulating piece of the pipe band ensemble
The Snare Drums, help to provide a constant rhythmic support to the music, a lot of the drive of a pipe band is brought out through the ensemble playing of snare drums to the Piping Corp

Some might say that the trick behind good playing is a fine Whiskey or a Guinness; but it’s much more complicated than that! |

When learning all beginners learn to play on the less obtrusive practise chanter (for Pipers), and practise pad (for Drummers) these are also much less expensive then rushing out to buy an instrument straight off
The tenor drum is the quickest way into a pipe band and often a great instrument to learn first!!
City of Maitland Pipes and Drums offers free tuition to anyone interested in learning an instrument. So, for the minimal cost of the practise instrument, about $30, your well on the way to learning music in a sociable, friendly environment!
As you progress onto the full sized instruments, our band is also able to offer instruments on loan...in fact, all drums are supplied by the band — very useful while you progress to being a full playing member of our band
*When ready: Membership to the band is charged at a minimal $10; which entitles you to use of our uniform and equipment |
